Land Use Leadership Alliance (LULA) Follow Up Meeting and Tarrytown Site Visit
On October 9, we reconvened the cohort of communities that had participated in the Land Use Leadership Alliance (LULA) training this past May, offered through the Hudson Valley Flood Resilience Network. The day also included a presentation and walking tour of Tarrytown’s waterfront resilience challenges and opportunities.
Lunch & Learn: Town of Olive uses NYC-Funded Flood Buyout Program to Build Resiliency
On September 18, Jim Sofranko, Supervisor of the Town of Olive, and Heidi Emrich, Ulster County Environmental Planner working to support the Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program, shared the town’s experience working through the New York City-funded Flood Buyout Program (FBO), and the decisions the town and landowners have faced when planning for the future of flood-prone properties, especially along Route 28 in Boiceville.
Risk and Crisis Communications for Flood Readiness
On June 16 and 17, the Hudson Valley Flood Resilience Network hosted two one-day trainings on Risk and Crisis Communications for Flood Readiness in Kingston (in partnership with Ulster County Department of Emergency Services) and Pomona (in partnership with Rockland County Office of Fire and Emergency Services).
Land Use Leadership Alliance training
The Hudson River Watershed Alliance, New York Sea Grant, and Pace University’s Land Use Law Center brought the award-winning Land Use Leadership Alliance (LULA) training program to members of the Hudson Valley Flood Resilience Network this spring.

On March 27, the Hudson Valley Flood Resilience Network held a meeting and site visit in Kingston for municipalities and regional partners to connect and learn together.
A Stormwater Solution in Hastings-on-Hudson
In 2024, the Village of Hastings-on-Hudson was recently awarded $2.5 million through the NYS Green Resiliency Grant (GRG) Program for the construction of a detention pond and drainage bypass that will reduce peak flows and mitigate the persistent and destructive flooding experienced in a residential area.
Association of State Floodplain Managers Webinar: Building and Sustaining Relationships
On December 13, Hudson Valley Flood Resilience Network co-facilitators Emily Vail, Hudson River Watershed Alliance, and Jessica Kuonen, New York Sea Grant, presented about the Flood Resilience Network as a successful case study for building and sustaining relationships at an Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) webinar.
Flood Resilience Network Clearwater Speaker Sail
On November 2, the Hudson River Watershed Alliance and New York Sea Grant presented about the Hudson Valley Flood Resilience Network on board the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater's last sail of the season, as part of Clearwater's Speaker Sail series.
Long Dock Park, Beacon Site Visit
On June 18, the Hudson Valley Flood Resilience Network met at Long Dock Park in Beacon. Scenic Hudson provided a tour of the park's flood resilience measures, sharing design features to mitigate flooding both from heavy rains and from the Hudson River.

The Piermont Waterfront Resiliency Commission created the Neighbor to Neighbor (N2N) Alert System to share information on flood risks with residents.
